To Vanessa, inspiration is not something you go looking for – it finds you.

Fashion is a complete obsession for her, and she uses it draw our attention to the little things in life which often go unnoticed. The results are incredible!

Vanessa is definitely a talent to look out for – although she wants to travel and explore the world she’s an Adelaide girl at heart and her dream is to set up her own boutique right here.

Keep updated with her journey by adding her page on Facebook!

Necia by Alexandra Ireland

Introducing Necia…the amazing label by TAFE final-year student Alexandra Ireland!

“‘Necia’s’ creations are not the type of thing you find in a mainstream shop; the label’s focus is to create quirky one off garments for young women who strive to find fashion with a difference, and to be noticed.”

Alexandra achieves this perfectly, with dramatic headpieces (inspired by Isabella Blow) and delicate sheer garments paired with structed bustiers covered in beads and sequins.

Her inspiration comes from the lives of others, telling their stories in sartorial form. She draws on the obscure and the beautiful, producing outfits to make any woman confident in herself.

“I crave to create unique garments that have a contradictory yet confident and feminine aesthetic, with particular attention to quality fabrics and construction. Relaxed but dressy, feminine but with an edge.”

It’s no surprise that Alexandra would like to see rising fashion icon Rihanna in her clothing – the pop star has just the right amount of the feminine and the edgy, with confidence and a killer dress sense to match!

You can find out more about Alexandra and Necia at the blog for her collection or the Necia facebook page. Or if you managed to get tickets to the TAFE parade at AFF, you’ll get to see the full collection!

FS: the next hot talent

I’ve been getting questions about the designers taking part in our fashion parade and I’ve got to say I’m pretty excited about our line-up!

For the first half, we have a great mix of boutiques and labels from hot new designers to vintage goodness – names to be released soon ;)

The second half is of course our design challenge – and congratulations to Hayley Kate and Greta Rumsby for getting into the finals of the Emerging Designer competition at Adelaide Fashion Festival! Can’t wait to see their collections at the show (and what they come up with for ours!)

I’ve also recently gotten photos from the TAFE final year parade…

This amazing shot is from Soraya De Vizio’s collection – love it!

She’s also going to be completing the uglee challenge and I can’t WAIT to see her outfit!

a caughtcouture night out [2threads, smirnoff]

2threads asked me to share a ‘getting ready to go out’ moment in conjunction with Smirnoff’s great new ‘Home Bar’ page on Facebook (they’re giving away 3 x $5k soley to help you run a party…)

So here’s my prep for a night out!

It starts off with the perfect LBD from Frankie & Bath…

Wait, no…maybe a sexy lace back from Manning Cartell…

Or maybe a burst of colour for summer! This one from Dusk could be a winner…

No, too formal. Wait, how about this?

A cute cut-out back, beautiful colour – perfect for partying! SA label Finders Keepers has it just right!

Okay, shoes…

Maybe some nude boots to lengthen the legs?

Yotam Solomon always has amazing things…but this is too daytime.

Studs are completely on-trend! Amazing Haus of Price…

Now for the tricky part…accessories.

Instant winner – by Tarsier.

A simple but elegant piece by Maison Martin Margiela.

Lanvin necklace? Okay, dream on!

But if you splurge, might as well do it on an up and coming designer…

Amazing work from Lucy Hutchings.

Now all we need is a bag!

This one from See by Chloe is uber cute, but the Joanna Louca keeps with the gold/black theme…I can’t decide!
