FABRICATION: the uglee challenge

Thank you to everyone who was involved with Fabrication – whether you were backstage, designed an outfit, bought a ticket or just listened to me stressing about it, you helped us raise $6000 for CANTEEN.

Cris and I were absolutely blown away by the turnout, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Special mentions to the lovely staff behind ATTITUDE magazine (latest issue launched last week) who pretty much saved the show, the incredibly talented (and patient) Ryan Polei who did shooting for us before and during the show, plus Kasim who took away the headache that is back of house management and made sure we had a show!

There are loads of others to thank, and we’ll be getting to you individually (if we haven’t already!)

As you can tell from the lack of posts, I’ve been gradually recovering from the show (if you’re eating and sleeping properly, then you’re not running a fashion show). Here’s some long-overdue photos from the challenge – before shots by me, afters by Ryan featuring the lovely Grace and Lucy from Tania Powell.

FS: FABRICATION

Finally… After months of stressing and screaming I’m so so excited to tell you that our event has gone live on Facebook!

Tickets are only $25 dollars – for two shows full of exclusive designs from some of the hottest up and coming talent, amazing canapes and pizza as only the Tivoliknows how, plus Peroni – plus 100% of the profit goes to CanTeen!

You might notice we have a new name…the amazing poster and the new name are all thanks to the fantastic people at ATTITUDE magazine! Seriously, love these guys. (Their upcoming issue sounds pretty exciting too, should be out Dec 3!)

FS: the next hot talent

I’ve been getting questions about the designers taking part in our fashion parade and I’ve got to say I’m pretty excited about our line-up!

For the first half, we have a great mix of boutiques and labels from hot new designers to vintage goodness – names to be released soon ;)

The second half is of course our design challenge – and congratulations to Hayley Kate and Greta Rumsby for getting into the finals of the Emerging Designer competition at Adelaide Fashion Festival! Can’t wait to see their collections at the show (and what they come up with for ours!)

I’ve also recently gotten photos from the TAFE final year parade…

This amazing shot is from Soraya De Vizio’s collection – love it!

She’s also going to be completing the uglee challenge and I can’t WAIT to see her outfit!

FS: ch-ch-changes

We’ve had a change in plans, and it’s a biggie…

The show will now be held in the beautifully restored ballroom of the Hotel Tivoli:

We’re thinking a mini-market on the mezzanine level, some free drinks on the bar and lots of that amazing Tivoli pizza…what do you think?

International Suit-up Day

As you may know, today has been ordained International Suit-up Day in honour of the one and only Barney Stinson. So it seems only fitting to announce that one of our four judges for the Bad Romance show will be Jason from TOD Bespoke!

[he cuts a sharp figure - and I asked him to cast a sharp eye over some celebrity outfits to tell us how they're REALLY faring in the suit stakes (see below)]

FS: Rapunsale

We’ve been looking for inspiration for the fashion show – from art, fashion, pretty much anywhere you can think of.

It made me think of all of the shows I’ve been to in the past…

My favourite show EVER was at Singapore Fashion Festival a couple of years ago. It was actually a side event called ‘Rapunsale’ where boutiques had a massive sale the whole day in a rooftop bar (shopping + cocktails = a good idea), ending with a parade in the light box across the alley.

It must’ve been a tricky show for the models (being 20m in the air) but they brought the attitude and it was just FUN. It fit the street fashion style perfectly.

Check out the FTV vids…

The guys:

Ryan Polei Photography

He might only have touched down in February, but Ryan Polei is taking this city by storm.

For one thing, he’s already one of the most visible party photographers with a regular gig at Au Haus on Friday nights, amongst others. The impressive bit is that you’ll find all 200 of the craziest party moments up on Facebook before your hangover’s even kicked in.

But Ryan’s real speciality as a photographer is wedding shoots…

[more wedding goodness]

So how does a Cal Poly boy end up being a photographer in lil old Adelaide? Well, it’s a pretty long story…one that starts somewhere around turning down a marketing job with the Wall Street Journal, involves a stint covering Miss China 2009 and finishes with a decision that Adelaide has much more awesome people than Sydney and Melbourne (yeahh!).

Lucky for me…because he’s been absolutely lovely and offered to sponsor our fashion show, not just with photos and filming on the night, but also with portfolio shots for all of the creative talent involved!

So if you see Ryan around – whether it’s taking photos or at a gig with his metal band – be sure to say hi. You can also see the huuuge amount of amazing work he gets through a week by following his blog (I’m LOVING the latest shoot for Clothes Line Saga). I definitely can’t wait to see where this kid ends up in a few years!

I’ll leave you with a couple of pics from an exclusive shoot called “GREED” for 159 Designs – modelled by the designer herself, Charlotte MacKinnon. It’ll be part of a series around the 7 Deadly Sins…watch out for it!

FS: get your attitude on

ATTITUDE/RIP IT UP IS SPONSORING OUR SHOW!!! THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I’VE HAD IN WEEKS. More developments when Cris and I stop screaming with happiness. <3

FS: Don’t stress, just shop

I’ve been pretty quiet on the fashion show front for the last week, so here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

Cristina has been running around sourcing the ugliest that Adelaide’s op shops have to offer + flying between Adelaide and Sydney for her internship with Camilla & Marc. Is she a high flyer, or what?

Meanwhile, I’ve been helping with a website launch, battling uni assignments and talking to more amazing people in Adelaide who might get involved with the show.

Here’s a couple…

Ryan is a familiar face to the Au Haus regulars, probably with a camera attached to one hand and a beer attached to the other. He’s a whole lotta fun and you’ll be hearing more about our collab for the show soon!

Kasim, aka ‘the guy with the Chuck Bass scarf’, is at pretty much every cool event in Adelaide – whether he’s working the crowds or backstage making sure that the show runs perfectly. (If you’ve been at the Myer fashion events this week, he was one of the stylists.)

So it’s pretty exciting to have his new agency Runway Communications on board as a sponsor!

Oh, and I’ve been style-lusting over things I can’t afford, like this

It’s a Yotam Solomon dress, made out of silk, bamboo and leather (my three favourite materials).

I think Stanton James is my latest favourite place to shop online…especially since discovering the 10% off code BLOGLUVR ;)

FS: dreams

If you were passing Hurtle Square of a Saturday afternoon and saw two girls draping the worst of 80s fashion over statues, then yes, that was caughtcouture at work!

Here’s a preview of some of the clothes that will be finding their way to designers…

We’ve just confirmed our emerging designers – there’s 13 of them in total ranging from TAFE students to better known names like Mai Loui and Penny Anne.

We thought it was fitting to use this statue asĀ  a stage for our clothes…

I have a couple of exciting partnerships to share with you soon! In the meantime we’re very busy making sure that the goodie bags at the show will be chock-full…or should I say choc-full?
