Singapore: you’ve been caught

After a long hiatus, caughtcouture is back – and yes, it’s landed in Singapore!

Adelaide will always have a place in my heart, but it’s time to move on to a new place. Singapore was recently listed as a sixth most fashionable city in the world, and it’s time to find out whether that’s true!

So for those of you new to caughtcouture…

We look for the sensationally stylish and capture them when they are out and about. caughtcouture is a curation of what we like in fashion and music.

This is the card to look out for:

It’s your ticket to amazing style, or, as a Prada exec has pointed out, can also be used for origami.

Coming up soon…caughtcouture’s royal welcome to Singapore at the second public night of The Royal Room, the latest lounge concept by the team behind Filter!

a caughtcouture night out [2threads, smirnoff]

2threads asked me to share a ‘getting ready to go out’ moment in conjunction with Smirnoff’s great new ‘Home Bar’ page on Facebook (they’re giving away 3 x $5k soley to help you run a party…)

So here’s my prep for a night out!

It starts off with the perfect LBD from Frankie & Bath…

Wait, no…maybe a sexy lace back from Manning Cartell…

Or maybe a burst of colour for summer! This one from Dusk could be a winner…

No, too formal. Wait, how about this?

A cute cut-out back, beautiful colour – perfect for partying! SA label Finders Keepers has it just right!

Okay, shoes…

Maybe some nude boots to lengthen the legs?

Yotam Solomon always has amazing things…but this is too daytime.

Studs are completely on-trend! Amazing Haus of Price…

Now for the tricky part…accessories.

Instant winner – by Tarsier.

A simple but elegant piece by Maison Martin Margiela.

Lanvin necklace? Okay, dream on!

But if you splurge, might as well do it on an up and coming designer…

Amazing work from Lucy Hutchings.

Now all we need is a bag!

This one from See by Chloe is uber cute, but the Joanna Louca keeps with the gold/black theme…I can’t decide!

Splendour

If you’re reading this this weekend then chance are you too are not at Splendour on the Grass…oh how I wish I was. So much that I had to make some moodboards.

Even for those who aren’t excited by the amazing Splendour line-up this year, the Coachella photos that have been circulating should be enough to make you get festival fashion envy…

[some music to get you in the mood...

Of course, festival wear has to be something you can dance in that’ll last you from the heat of the mosh to the cold of the trek back to your tent after the after-party (length of walk dependent on how hard you after-partied) and comfy shoes – but most importantly, look good!

[vaguely left to right:

blazer - Givenchy; double-layered boots - Alexander Wang; acid-wash denim playsuit - Topshop; Zooey Deschanel (She & Him) and her amazingly perfect hair at Coachella; floral corset dress - Topshop; logo gumboots - Fendi; glowsticks are the best accessory; closely followed by the plastic lizard necklace worn by Cassie in Skins; a friend of Beyoncé's in an awesome festival outfit; red gumboots - Salvatore Ferragamo; striped bubble dress with pin - Club Couture

[one of the wackier outfits at Coachella; the coolest kid's earphones ever; how to stay cool in the mosh; vintage top and silk harem pants at Nasty Gal Vintage; Vanessa Hudgens with her fave accessories (a nice floppy sunhat and Zac Efron); Cassie from skins rocking out her own hat and Miu Miu-ish sunnies]

Weathering Winter #2

I’m still having problems adapting to winter. I just can’t get it into my head that no matter how sunny it might look from the inside, thin silk blouses and open shoes are not going to work for Adelaide in June.

Proenza Schouler never fails for inspiration…

The pre-fall collection is, as always, just the right amount of crazy and classic. A little bit like Jenny Humphrey meets Viktor & Rolf. Er.

Weathering Winter #1

In Australia, whenever we’re lazing around in our bikinis and minidresses the fashion press is going crazy over the latest coat…and when we start shivering (yes, it gets cold here) the Northern Hemisphere are raving about what will be the hot dress for spring.

So I’m warmed almost instantly to find the previews of the next Winter collections.

The pages of pre-collections to be found in Vogue Paris are an interesting relevation. It is the least impressive shoot in the June/July issue, which may put an already dubious choice of photographer into further doubt (Google ‘Terry Richardson’). Leaving aside the controversy, it’s up to Lara Stone, Freja Beha and an armload of designer labels to save the show:

Looks like key trends are set to continue – sheer blacks, camel coats, fur and 90s styling. All of the black chokers are YSL (but other brooches have been substituted to show whose look is whose).

While it’s the least practical of winter wear, the sheer black ensemble by Givenchy is my favourite.

And just in case you’re wondering…that Chanel fur jacket is fake fur, not real.

Not the most inspiring but right now I’ll take what I can get of winter fashion. Looking at models lazing on some beach in Portugal just makes me shiver more.

Style on sale

I love sales. Especially when they’re good designers, big discounts, and accessible by just clicking on an email.

As much as I love the sale site GILT, their refusal to post outside of the US prevents me from loving them tooo much.

Buuut then I found this:

And this:

Annnnd…upcoming sales include Prada, Kate Spade, Chloe and Yves Saint Laurent.

The site is Reebonz and they’re always selling top brands, often current season, always authentic. I think it’s love. I know I will have to win the lottery before another bag comes my way but the discounts make it that much more reachable…

Best of all they’re willing to post to Australia and most of Asia!

The only catch is…you have to get in quick as they sell out of their stock within minutes! Sign up, get discounts.

boys in tweed

I’m starting to do event photography. There is a lot of room for improvement (not falling over while taking this photo would have helped) but my favourite outfit so far:

You can’t go past tweeds and a boater for old world charm. Even the stripy socks are fantastic. The only regrettable accessory is the coles bag…
